Tony Ferguson still plans to make weight for cancelled UFC 249

Tony Ferguson is the type of guy who cuts weight for a fight that’s already been cancelled.

Meme imitates life, and evidently, life imitates meme. Although UFC 249 was officially cancelled last week, the mercurial lightweight contender made a twitter post indicating that he still aims to make weight:

Ferguson was scheduled to fight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov for the undisputed lightweight title, but this was derailed by COVID-19 travel restrictions before the UFC slated Justin Gaethje as Khabib’s replacement, after which the event was cancelled altogether, reportedly due to pressure from the promotion’s parent company.

Ferguson said of the cancellation: “Oh, well. I’m still going to train. … I’m sure it’s for a good reason. Let’s be real. I got to keep the faith.”
