Tony Ferguson makes weight for cancelled UFC 249

Last week, Tony Ferguson announced his intention to make weight for UFC 249, in spite of the event having been cancelled the week prior.

Ferguson was scheduled to fight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov for the undisputed lightweight title, but this was derailed by COVID-19 travel restrictions before the UFC slated Justin Gaethje as Khabib’s replacement, after which the event was cancelled altogether, reportedly due to pressure from the promotion’s parent company.

Ferguson said of the cancellation: “Oh, well. I’m still going to train. … I’m sure it’s for a good reason. Let’s be real. I got to keep the faith.”

Today, which would have been the day of weigh-ins had the event went ahead as planned, Ferguson posted a video of himself stepping on the scale and making the 155lbs weight limit on his instragram page.
