UFC books superfight between Jan Blachowicz and Israel Adesanya
After months of speculation that Israel Adesanya would be moving up in weight to fight at 205lbs, it has finally become official. Adesanya will be challenging Jan Blachowicz for the UFC light heavyweight title at UFC 259 in March.
This news became official after UFC president Dana White announced the fight on ESPN. A venue has not yet been determined for the event.
Blachowicz became champion after beating Dominick Reyes for the vacant light heavyweight title at UFC 253 in September.
Adesanya has long teased a move up in weight, but this was in the midst of a social media beef with longtime light heavyweight king Jon Jones. Nonetheless, he will be fighting Blachowicz for the light heavyweight belt.
If Adesanya succeeds, he would become the eighth fighter in UFC history to become champion in two weight categories.
