Tyron Woodley is offered fight with Colby Covington, accepts
Tyron Woodley has now lost ten straight rounds in the octagon. His last two opponents have systematically deconstructed the longtime UFC welterweight king, each earning a dominant unanimous decision victory over the seemingly hapless Woodley.
But while many of us thought that perhaps Tyron had fallen “in and out of love” with MMA, it did not take him long to accept another fight. In an interview with ESPN, Woodley revealed that he was offered (and has accepted) a fight with the big-talking Colby Covington.
While Woodley views Colby as “an actor,” whose irreverent behavior is “kind of fun to watch,” he did not hesitate to accept the offer. “I said [to my manager], ‘Make sure to tell them today: Yes.’”
When Woodley was champion, Covington had called him out on a number of occasions, and the fight was close to materializing before Kamaru Usman got the title shot instead. Usman defeated Woodley to seize the welterweight title, after which his first title defence was against none other than Colby Covington, who he defeated by 5th round TKO.
Needless to say, no official announcement has been made as of now, and Covington has yet to comment.
