Khamzat Chimaev out of Fight Island headliner vs. Leon Edwards

Fight fans may have to add yet another bout to the ranked of cursed fights. For the second time, Khamzat Chimaev vs. Leon Edwards has been cancelled.

The two welterweights were initially slated to headline UFC Fight Night 183 on December 19th, but the fight was cancelled after Edwards tested positive for COVID-19.

The fight was postponed to the January 20th UFC “Fight Island” event, but Chimaev has withdrawn from the fight for undisclosed reasons, thus causing the fight to fall through yet again.

Edwards last fought in July 2019, defeating Rafael dos Anjos by unanimous decision, but the Briton has since had trouble with bookings.

In addition to the aforementioned fight cancellations, earlier this year a planned London bout between Edwards and Tyron Woodley was cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions put in place by the UK government.

The UFC is looking for a short-notice replacement to fight Edwards in Chimaev’s stead.
