Khamzat Chimaev eyes Neil Magny for potential return fight

Khamzat Chimaev, after starting his UFC career with three dominant performances in rapid succession, has been shelved for some months now after contracting COVID-19 and dealing with lingering symptoms.

While three separate dates had been set for him to face Leon Edwards, it ended up being cancelled each time, causing the UFC to move on to other matchups for both fighters.

Now the young prospect has set his sights on a June return. The opponent he has in mind is a fixture of the UFC welterweight division: Neil Magny.

Chimaev and Magny got into a bit of a twitter spat last month, as Chimaev sarcastically congratulated Magny after his unanimous decision loss to Michael Chiesa at UFC Fight Island 8.

The always game and always dangerous Magny would be the biggest test Chimaev has faced in his career thus far, and fortunately, it appears that the UFC’s intervention has yielded some positive results in Chimaev’s recovery from COVID-19.
