Khabib Nurmagomedov targets September return
UFC 249 has been cancelled, and with UFC president Dana White targeting mid-May for setting up his “fight island” idea, the near future of the promotion is in flux. Lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov seems to think that September is a good time for a return to action.
He said in an Instagram post: “September is not so far away, although it’s hard to believe that all of this will end by September. However, a serious man once said, ‘If you want peace, prepare for war.’”
For now, Khabib is preparing for Ramadan, the Muslim month of fasting, which this year starts in late April and ends in late May. He never competes during this month, as it interferes with the laborious weight cuts required of the sport, although this year it seems that no UFC events will be held in this time frame anyway.
