Jan Blachowicz calls out Daniel Cormier, Cormier declines
After newly crowned UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz’s second round TKO victory over Dominick Reyes at UFC 253, former light heavyweight king Jon Jones posted to his Twitter: “Would you guys be annoyed if I went back and grabbed my belt real quick?”
Daniel Cormier had some thoughts about this. On Monday’s “DC and Helwani,” Cormier suggested that Jones vacated his light heavyweight belt to avoid a rematch with Reyes, only entertaining coming back after Blachowicz had won.
Cormier further suggested that Blachowicz is “too slow” for Jones, that Jones would “pick him apart,” and that Jones is durable enough to withstand Blachowicz’s famed “Polish Power.”
Blachowicz took exception to these remarks, and took to Twitter to voice his displeasure. “Hey [Cormier], if you have so much to say about me, get your fat [expletive] off the couch and come to the octagon,” read the post.
Cormier diffused the situation by saying that Blachowicz “shouldn’t worry [about] what an old retired man is saying,” and congratulated him on his new title, to which Blachowicz politely declared: “An internet war is over.”
