Fedor vs. Rampage: Both Lose to Father Time

Fedor Emelianenko defeated an overweight Quinton "Rampage" Jackson in an underwhelming fight at Bellator 237 in Japan last night. The two fighters, with a combined age of 84 years old, failed to recreate the greatness of their youth.

The two fought in slow-motion, with Rampage looking like he trained at his local Hometown Buffet for this fight.

MMA is a sport for young fighters, yet time and time again, we see these promotions put together fights with fighters who are way past their prime. Big names sell fights, however, these fights rarely live up to the action-packed bouts they are touted to be.

In 2018, we saw Liddell vs. Ortiz III, a retirement home scuffle which left many fans feeling sad for both fighters. The same goes for Gracie vs. Shamrock III and Belfort vs. Machida before them. Earlier this year, we saw Israel Adesanya take on an aging Anderson Silva in a "fight" that felt more like a sparring session.

Of course fighters rarely know when to call it quits, but surely they recognize their banged-up bodies are not what they used to be. In his spot-on self-analysis addressing his loss on Instagram, Ramage said he "felt like a hippopotamus."

In the wild, old hippos often take a step back and spend their days cooling off in rivers and lakes. These old fighters could learn a thing or two from them. Enjoy your retirement while leaving your legacy intact.
