Dana White says Zhang Weili vs. Rose Namajunas to be held in Asia

UFC president Dana White is trying to arrange a women’s strawweight title fight between champion Zhang Weili and former champion Rose Namajunas.

This fight is said to be in the works for some time in 2021. However, more interestingly, according to White it will not be held in Las Vegas, nor at “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi.

No, White says he plans to hold the event somewhere in Asia. “We’re looking to do [Zhang vs. Rose] this year, and in Asia,” said White. It is presumed by this statement that he does not consider the Arabian Peninsula to be a part of Asia.

The UFC has been holding events exclusively at either Fight Island or the Apex in Las Vegas, since mid-2020. So if this does get pushed through, it would be a huge development, indeed.

Zhang last fought in March 2020 at UFC 248, defeating Joanna Jedrzejczyk in a razor thin split decision. Namajunas has fought more recently, avenging her loss to Jessica Andrade at UFC 251 last July.
