Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier unofficially agree to charity fight

The public spat between former UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor and UFC president Dana White has taken a strange turn.

The heated exchange between White and McGregor, in which the former accused the latter of ducking opportunities to fight, culminated with McGregor inviting lightweight contender Dustin Poirier to arrange a charity fight, unaffiliated with the UFC.

McGregor would then go on to specify the details of this hypothetical bout.

Poirier and McGregor had fought before, at UFC 178 way back in 2014. However, both fighters have come a long way since then. Both moved up in weight and acquired championship belts for themselves (in Poirier’s case, an interim belt).

Of course, the UFC would certainly take exception to two of its highest ranked lightweight talents arranging a fight without their promotional involvement, and thus, this fight is unlikely to take place in the manner that McGregor outlined.

However, this certainly is a sign of a fracture in the relationship between McGregor and Dana White.
