Anthony Johnson open to Bellator lightweight tournament
Bellator’s recent high-profile additions to the light heavyweight division – namely, Anthony “Rumble” Johnson and Yoel “Soldier of God” Romero – have caused many to question whether the Bellator light heavyweights have surpassed the UFC’s light heavyweight division.
Now, it seems, we may have the pleasure of witnessing a Bellator light heavyweight grand prix. Bellator’s president, Scott Coker, has held tournaments in the past (in the welterweight and heavyweight divisions), and continues to express interest in doing so. And it seems Anthony Johnson is of the same mind.
“Man, I’m used to PRIDE,” Johnson told MMA Junkie, referring to the now defunct Japanese promotion known for its entertaining (and sometimes idiosyncratic) tournaments. “If we could do stuff like that, I’m definitely down.”
Johnson elaborated his reasons for endorsing the idea of a tournament: “I look forward to competing against all of them. All of them are top fighters to me.”
