Masvidal vs. Diaz 2 is out; Masvidal vs. Covington is in, says Dana White

UFC president Dana White has soured on the idea of a rematch between Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz, at least for the moment. Instead, he is trying to arrange a grudge match between Masvidal and Colby Covington.

White announced this at the press conference following UFC 253, saying “It’s very possible [Masvidal vs. Covington] is next,” adding: “That’s the fight that makes sense.”

Masvidal and Diaz fought at UFC 244 last November for the newly minted “BMF” belt, with Masvidal winning by TKO due to a doctor’s stoppage between the third and fourth rounds.

Although the UFC is no longer targeting a rematch, White did not reject the idea of it happening at some point down the line.

Covington called out Masvidal (his former friend) after beating former welterweight champion Tyron Woodley at UFC Fight Night 178 two weeks ago, calling him “Street Judas.”
