Leon Edwards vs. Nate Diaz set as UFC 262 co-main event

For the first time in history, we will have a five-round non-title fight co-main event in a UFC PPV.

UFC 262’s co-main event will be a five round bout between Leon Edwards and Nate Diaz. The card is scheduled to take place on May 15 in Houston in front of a live crowd.

Edwards last fought just weeks ago, at UFC Fight Night 187, against Belal Muhammad. However, the fight ended in disappointment, as it was declared a no contest due to Muhammad being incapacitated by an Edwards eye poke.

Diaz’s last fight was a TKO loss to Jorge Masvidal at UFC 244 in November 2019, whereafter Masvidal was awarded the “BMF” belt.

The two fighters are headed in opposite directions in terms of their career trajectory. Edwards was on an eight fight win streak before the no contest, whereas Diaz has gone 3-2 in his last five bouts.

This card will feature some other marquee lightweight matchups; namely, Michael Chandler vs. Charles Oliveira (which will be for the vacant lightweight title) and Beneil Dariush vs. Tony Ferguson.
