Dana White not confident in future of Nurmagomedov-Ferguson matchup

Dana White graced the realm of MMA Reddit yesterday. During an “Ask Me Anything,” the UFC president answered the questions and comments of fans.

When asked about the status of the long-awaited Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson matchup, White was not exactly optimistic, saying he was “not very” confident that a fight between the two would take place at some point this year.

He added: “I’m afraid of what will happen next if we try to make that happen again,” perhaps hinting at a belief in the fight being cursed, an opinion widely held by fans.

Ferguson (25-3) is scheduled to fight Justin Gaethje for the promotion’s interim lightweight belt at UFC 249 on May 9th. UFC 249 was originally scheduled for April 18th and featured Nurmagomedov vs. Ferguson, but the event was derailed by the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Nurmagomedov is seeking a return to the cage in September.
